What is Outdoor Therapy?

Outdoor Therapy takes therapy sessions out of the office and into the great outdoors. It involves conducting therapy sessions in natural settings such as parks, gardens, forests, or other outdoor environments. It provides a change of scenery from traditional therapy settings and offers a range of benefits for your mental and physical health. It's a chance to connect with nature while exploring your thoughts and feelings in a safe, supportive environment.

Benefits of Outdoor Therapy

Promotes a Sense of Space & Expansiveness

Outdoor settings can often feel more open and less intimidating, helping you to feel more open and free, making it easier to explore your thoughts and emotions.

Enhances Mental Well-being

Outdoor Therapy can increase serotonin levels, reduce cortisol levels, and lower risks of depression, anxiety, and stress.

Boosts Creativity and Problem-Solving Skills

The natural environment can stimulate creativity and help you find new perspectives on challenges you may be facing.

Increased Vitamin D

Sunlight helps regulate mood and improve overall well-being.

Improves Physical Health

Fresh air, sunlight, movement, and natural surroundings can boost endorphins, improve digestion, blood pressure, and immune system function.

Encourages Relaxation and Stress Reduction

Nature has a calming effect on the mind and body, helping you feel more relaxed and at ease.

How Outdoor Therapy Works

During our sessions, we will work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences while immersed in nature. I will guide you through various therapeutic techniques and exercises designed to help you connect with the natural world and find inner peace and healing.

Ready to Get Started with Outdoor Therapy?

If you're ready to experience the healing benefits of Outdoor Therapy, I invite you to schedule a session today. Together, we will embark on a journey of self-discovery, growth, and healing in the great outdoors.

Does Outdoor Therapy cost the same as your Online Therapy sessions? Yes, the cost of Outdoor Therapy is generally the same as our Online Therapy sessions. However, it may vary depending on the location and specific arrangements. For instance, if a client suggests a location that requires additional travel time, the cost may reflect the time involved. Some clients opt for longer, double sessions fortnightly to balance out the cost of additional time. Ultimately, the pricing will be discussed and agreed upon based on individual needs and circumstances.

Do I need to have prior experience with outdoor activities to participate in Outdoor Therapy? No prior experience is necessary. Outdoor Therapy is suitable for individuals of all fitness levels and outdoor experience.

What should I wear or bring to an Outdoor Therapy session? Wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for the weather and terrain. You may also want to bring water and sunscreen.

Is Outdoor Therapy safe? Outdoor Therapy is generally safe. Therapists are trained to ensure the safety and well-being of clients during outdoor sessions.

What if the weather is bad on the day of my Outdoor Therapy session? In the event of inclement weather on the day of your Outdoor Therapy session, we will refer to the weather conditions agreed upon in our contract. We define "safe weather" as conditions that do not pose a threat or risk (such as lightning or gale-force winds). If the weather is unsafe, sessions may be rescheduled or adjusted accordingly. Rest assured, I will discuss all available options with you to ensure your safety and comfort during our sessions.

What is the cancellation policy for Outdoor Therapy sessions? For Outdoor Therapy sessions, the same 48-hour cancellation policy applies. However, I understand that sessions can be affected by weather conditions. For example, strong winds may impact our ability to hear each other, but may not be dangerous. In such cases, I will get in touch and we can move the session to an online format for that day.

How will I find you for our first session? Prior to your first outdoor therapy session we will create a mutually agreeable contract and one of the points we will discuss is a specific meeting point.

How many sessions will I need? The number of sessions needed varies based on your unique needs and goals. Together, we'll create a personalised plan tailored to your journey.

Can I combine Outdoor Therapy with traditional therapy? Yes, Outdoor Therapy can complement traditional therapy methods. We can combine online sessions with outdoor sessions to enhance your therapeutic experience. However, it's important to note that you wouldn't be able to work with two therapists simultaneously.

Is Outdoor Therapy suitable for young people? Yes, Outdoor Therapy can be beneficial for young people, typically from high school age (around 11-12 years) and upwards. Therapists may use age-appropriate activities to engage younger clients in nature.
